Herman Cain’s boneheaded 999 plan has been receiving a lot of attention over the past few weeks as he is the current GOP frontrunner. Washington is as partisan as ever. News broke tonight that would be no grand compromise on the debt ceiling. John Boehner announced that it would be too difficult to get Republican votes on a tax increase deal with spending cuts. The deal that President Obama was trying to broker was for $4 trillion dollars in spending cuts and $800 billion dollars in tax revenue. This negotiation shows just how broken Washington is. MSNBC host Ed Schultz has been suspended for using a slur to describe conservative radio host Laura Ingraham. Schultz announced his suspension live last night in the first three minutes of The Ed Show on MSNBC. He has expected to be out for a week and will return next Wednesday.

There is a big fight in Congress over what to cut from the federal budget. Congress is debating where to cut spending with the poor and middle class likely to suffer from the biggest cutbacks. I have never understood why whenever there are cutbacks in the federal budget that the middle class and poor are the ones that suffer the most. I support it is because those are the two groups that cannot afford to pay lobbyists to represent them. The one area that never seems to get cut is defense spending. Let’s look at two areas that should be cut but won’t be touched.
